What We Want
News tips. If you've seen something about the census, Stats Canada, or the Lockheed Martin contract that didn't make the news, tell us. Even small stuff. It all adds up.
Corrections. If we got something wrong, say so. We'd rather fix it than leave it up.
Reader stories. If you've had an experience with the census, a rep, a survey, or the system in general, we'd like to hear it. Names can stay out of it if you prefer.
Cartoons and graphics. If you've made something about the census, send it over. If it's good and it's on topic, we'll post it in the gallery.
Legal help. If you're a lawyer and you'd be willing to answer questions from readers, or help someone who's been charged, we'd like to connect.
What We Don't Want
Threats. Personal attacks. Anything illegal. We're not a place to settle scores or vent about people in your life. Keep it about the census.
Long forwarded emails with fifty "FW:" in the subject line. We won't read them. If there's a link or a news story in there, just send the link.
Requests to promote products, services, or other websites. We don't do that.
How To Reach Us
Use the contact form on this page if it's working. If it isn't, or if you'd rather not use a form, you can write to us at the general inbox that's listed at the bottom of every page on this site.
If you're a journalist working on a story and you need to reach someone quickly, say so in your message. We'll try to respond faster.
Anonymity
You can write to us anonymously. Just say so. We won't publish your name, your location, or anything else that could identify you unless you tell us it's okay.
If you're a Stats Canada employee and you want to share something without risking your job, use an anonymous channel. We understand. We won't try to figure out who you are.
Response Time
We're a volunteer operation. Sometimes we reply the same day. Sometimes it takes a week. Sometimes we read something, think about it, and reply a month later because it took that long to figure out what to say.
If you don't hear back, don't assume we ignored you. Assume we're busy. If it's important, send it again.
What Happens To What You Send
If you send us a tip, we may publish it. If you send a correction, we'll fix the page. If you send a cartoon, it goes in the gallery. If you send a personal story, we'll ask before publishing it, and we'll respect whatever you decide.
We don't sell anything you send us. We don't share it with third parties. We don't use it for anything other than running this site.
One More Thing
You don't have to have a big story to write to us. Sometimes the best messages are the short ones. A single sentence about something that happened to you can end up being more useful than a three-page essay.
So don't overthink it. If you've got something to say, say it.
